Workshops

The musical world in which we live is changing. Now, more than ever, it is crucially important that young musicians are provided with rounded skills so that they can tackle the challenges of the modern musical world.

During the course, students are provided with workshops to help them develop these skills, which are not only limited to helping their musical development, but are transferable life skills. These include workshops on singing, movement and communication, performance psychology and anxiety (delivered by the University of Leeds) and performance etiquette (delivered by the Royal Northern College of Music).

“The best part of the YYS course is being surrounded by talented musicians”

Jennie

“It’s been great to meet new people and work together with each other and the tutors to create music. It really is inspiring to see it all coming together”

Emily

At YYS we realise that students will often be thinking about university and career choices. To help students gain the information they need, we have workshops delivered by the University of Leeds and the Royal Northern College of Music on what it is like to study at a university or music college.

These sessions are not just limited to those wanting to study music. They provide students with information on the transition between sixth form and university life, with advice on how to adapt to independent  learning, as well as information on UCAS and how to apply to university.
