“I came to YYS not really knowing what to expect. Now I feel that it’s a second home. It’s a family atmosphere and I love it”

YYS provides young musicians with an intensive week of orchestral rehearsals and sectionals where they will learn an exciting and stretching range of music with some of Europe's best musicians and teachers. In addition to their tuition, students also receive workshops ranging from Choir, Movement and Communication, Performance Etiquette (delivered by RNCM) and Performance Psychology (delivered by the University of Leeds).

For our 2016 course, YYS will be performing at Leeds Town Hall as part of the Leeds International Concert Series. We will aslo be joined by one of Classic FM's "25 greatest pianists of all time",  Stephen Hough.

The students will enjoy fantastic facilities and accommodation, where all aspects of their musical and social development are nurtured by our passionate staff. You can find out more in the following sections:

What do students get out of the Sinfonia?

• Excellent music education - provided by some of the best musicians in Europe who specialise in music education

• Exciting repertoire – chosen to help stimulate students as well as provide challenges for a youth orchestra

• A safe and supportive learning environment – the Sinfonia provides designated pastoral staff who are responsible for social events and the welfare of all the students

• A springboard to further education – thanks to our partnership with the University of Leeds, our students receive workshops on the application process of UCAS as well as an insight into what university life is like, regardless as to whether they wish to pursue music.

• Expert performance coaching from the Royal Northern College of Music (RNCM) and an insight into life at a music conservatoire

• A modern approach to music making – our students will receive coaching on performance psychology and nerves, helping students develop the skills to perform to the best of their ability

• Prestigious concerts – the Sinfonia performs concerts at culturally significant venues in Yorkshire

YYS 2016 takes place August 15th - 20th at Queen Margaret's school.
