YYS is a unique youth orchestra course in Yorkshire delivering life changing orchestral courses for young musicians and unforgettable high profile concerts celebrating Yorkshire’s culture, focusing the nations media on the region’s cultural achievements. In September 2015, YYS gained national acclaim as the feature of the BBC Radio 4 programme “Birth of an Orchestra” with Alan Bennet. The YYS team is made up of musicians from some of Europe's leading orchestras and conservatoires.
Yorkshire Young Sinfonia
The Sinfonia provides young musicians aged between 12 and 18 from Yorkshire with a residential orchestra course, helping them to develop both musically and socially. This is delivered by some of the most exciting tutors from around Europe who not only play at the highest standard, but are innovators in musical education.
The Yorkshire Young Sinfonia is proud to represent Yorkshire on the cultural map of Great Britain. The Sinfonia has committed to a number of musical goals in regards to Yorkshire. One of these is raising the profile of composers from Yorkshire, as well as music inspired by Yorkshire. Another goal is to promote contemporary music by composers from the Yorkshire region.
