Violin Tutor
Sophie Lockett enjoys a diverse performing career playing with the London Chamber Orchestra, the London Contemporary and London Symphony Orchestras, English National Opera, and the Aurora Orchestra. She joined the internationally-renowned Barbican Piano Trio in 2009, giving concerts and masterclasses across the country. Their tour to Romania in 2013 included a performance of the Beethoven Triple concerto with Arad Symphony Orchestra.
Sophie was awarded a scholarship to The Purcell School, where she studied with Erik Houston. Her studies continued with Yossi Zivoni at the Royal College of Music, where she was a Foundation Scholar. She was awarded a Leverhulme Orchestral Mentor scholarship for her Postgraduate year. Sophie led the Cavell Quartet, which won the RCM String Quartet Competition and gave recitals throughout the UK, including at Wigmore Hall and King’s Place. Sophie now leads the Holywell string quartet and is a member of Albert’s Band—the Royal Albert Hall’s education team—giving workshops and concerts for children in London. She has recorded and performed with bands including Bastille and McFly.
Sophie is a violin and chamber music teacher at the Royal Academy of Music Junior Department, and coaches at Junior MusicWorks, Pro Corda, Marryat Players, and Yorchestra courses. Since 2009, she has directed the York Young Soloists Chamber Orchestra, made up of players aged 16 – 26, many already pursuing careers in music. Performances have included a live broadcast on BBC Radio 4.
