Eleanor Hudson

Harp Tutor

 

 

Eleanor Hudson started to learn the piano from the age of 3 and the harp at age 14.


She entered Chethams School of Music as a joint first study then continued her studies at the RNCM where she gained GMus with honours. She then went on to attain an ARCM in harp performance with distinction. After graduating Eleanor joined the Northern Ballet Theatre Orchestra as well as freelancing as principal harp with Orchestras over Britain including the Philharmonia, Halle, BBC Symphony, BBC Scottish, RSNO and Scottish Chambers Orchestras with whom she performed a series of concertos.


After a year in Spain with the Malaga Symphony Orchestra Eleanor returned to take up the post of Principal harpist with the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra in 1994. She has toured extensively with this orchestra as well as performing concertos, chamber and solo recitals and recording numerous CD’s.


In a field of lighter music Eleanor has worked with Bill Bailey, Elvis Costello, Tony Bennet and Robbie Williams. 


In 2011 Eleanor gained a PGCert in music education as well as a degree in Assisting Teaching and Learning with distinction from Manchester Metropolitan University, resulting in Eleanor leaving the RLPO in 2012 to concentrate on teaching and music in education.


Eleanor now teaches harp at Chethams School of Music in Manchester as well as coaching improvisation and ensemble classes. She also adjudicates and regularly coaches the harpists for National Youth Orchestra of Scotland, as well as recently coaching on the National Youth Orchestras Inspire course. She is external Examiner at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland and teaches harp piano theory and aural to all levels. 


She has worked for the last five years with NHS Mersey care planning delivering and evaluating music workshops in secure mental health settings and is a regular visiting musician at Ashworth Hospital.
